Ultra Violet 01

It is a dance piece about identity, female gender perception, sexuality, and the notion of gaze. It investigates the notion of the body in the between moments of hostility and control, of acceptance and serenity. It was part of my research on the themes of power, dominance and manipulation. The central question is how people can gain power over others by using explicit the female body as the battle field of social venues and hidden messages in an increasingly constructive globalized popular culture. It has been performed by four female dancers at the University of Malta. As choreographer, I brought together techniques of interdisciplinary theater by putting into practice devised methods of contemporary dance, physical theater, movement and text based improvisation.
